Ashton Kutcher has secretly been fighting to protect thousands of children.
You might only know him as a blockbuster movie star, but Ashton Kutcher is one celebrity who has used his high profile for good.
In 2009 with his ex-wife Demi Moore, he set up the DNA Foundation, which aims to protect children who have been the victims of sexual exploitation.
He has taken a step back from the film industry for a while as he continued to work hard on this project.
He spoke to ABC news about the important work his charity has been doing.
He said:
“It is not the force for good or the force for evil. That’s you. You are the force for good or the force of evil. There are millions of images that are transferred daily of child abuse material. We’ve identified 6,000 children that are being abused. We’ve identified 12,000 adults that are also being abused and 6,000 abusers.”
“The only question we have to ask ourselves is, ‘how good are we?’ I’ve articulated my purpose. The question is, what is yours?”
Giving the police a run for their money, Kutcher’s foundation works closely with Google and Facebook, using the latest technology methods to bust child abusers.
While some celebrities use their statues and popularity to simply further their own careers, Ashton Kutcher is one of the ‘good guys’.
He told ABC news about the way his foundation has saved thousands of children from abusive situations all over the world.
He said:
“As part of my anti-trafficking work, I’ve met victims in Russia, I’ve met victims in India, I’ve met victims that have been trafficked from Mexico, victims from New York and New Jersey and all across our country. I’ve been on FBI raids where I’ve seen these things that no person should ever see.
I’ve seen video content of a child that’s the same age as mine being raped by an American man that was a sex tourist in Cambodia. And this child was so conditioned by her environment that she thought she was engaging in play. She’d been abused for three years and they’d watched her for three years and they could not find the perpetrator, asking us for help.”
Kutcher really seems to have taken well to the role of child-protector and says that he he wishes more people in his position would use their wealth and influence to help those who really need it.
