Have you ever wondered why positivity is such a big deal to our health and wellness?
Researchers now believe that the connection between health and positivity may be found in our very own cells.
Numerous studies from medical centers such John Hopkins University and Harvard School of Public Health, as well as the National Institutes of Health give overwhelming proof that what happens in the brain influences what happens in the body.
These studies are showing an indisputable link between an optimistic outlook and improved health. Benefits of thinking positive include lower blood pressure, weight control, lower risk of heart disease, and healthier blood sugar levels.
In times of ill health, actively engaging in positive thought and being surrounded be positive emotions can boost the immune system and even acts as an antidepressant.
As a person who has studied human biology, physiology and spirituality, I have witnessed first hand how positivity and optimism are key ingredients for renewed health and spiritual success. The secret to your own success is hidden deep within your very cells.
Positivity is in out nature. It’s not just some invisible force that you interact with, it’s very real and tangible and brings about incredible action. Our bodies are powered by electricity and we’re made up of salts and ions like sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, all having a very specific positive electrical charge. There is, of course, negative ions in your body too, but in order to make any tangible action, it is only the movement of the positive ions that matters.
There are certain types of specialized cells in the body that are very excitable. They create what called an action potential – the cell to cell communication that allows an electrical signal to reach a destination with an associated physiologic response.
This action potential is can be described as movement in the body due to cells allowing positive ions to cross the membrane but keep the negative ions out. How incredible is that!?
I have always found that the basis of all healing is to consider that science and spirituality are actually not as different as they seem.
Science says: The better we understand the nature of the world, the better we can move in the world.
Spirituality says: The better we understand the nature of ourselves, the better we can move within ourselves and the world.
Science is believable because it is the reality that surrounds us and it is what we know and see. It’s measurable and can be and proven through experimentation. Spirituality on the other hand encourages people to search within themselves, trust what they don’t know and can’t see or measure, and to address life with a positive and faithful flow.
The takeaway message: Positivity is crucial to achieving your life goals.
Just take a second and really think how you embrace positivity and start making positive choices.
Are you the type of person that says “I’ll sit this one out”, only to think that “tomorrow” you’ll find time to bring more joy into your life? This can be with activities such as exercise or eating healthy, two hugely positive actions, that most people don’t find the time for.
In the same way that cells in your body respond in real-time from external positive input, so can you!
To start you off in the right direction, here are three things science knows about excitable cells:
Positivity is in your true nature!
When things go wrong, it’s easy to blame the negatives around you such as bad experiences, parents, relationships, but you really have no excuse not to be positive, as your cells are doing that for you every second of every day.
Of course, things happen in life that are completely out of our control, both inside and outside our bodies, but every good thing that has ever happened in the history of time has been a direct result of positive influence. A single negative person or negative mood will never change that about you.
Open yourself up to positivity!
Reinforce the positives in your life and block out the negatives. Treat your body like a muscle and train it. The more you practice, the better you’ll get…and yes, you can practice being more positive!
I’ve found the best way to do this is to be positive when you think about yourself. Remember, you’re already positively amazing whether you think it or not! So, start telling yourself how awesome you are. Compliment yourself, tell yourself you look good and you did a great job at work. If you’re a parent, remind yourself that you’re doing great.
We are all born with hundreds of billions of excitable cells, meaning that we have billions of positive attributes and reasons to be excited. Remind yourself of this every day.
Respond to life in a positive way
It’s one thing being positive with yourself but another to be positive towards others. Cells can share positive impulses with other cells, so share your wealth of positivity with others around you.
The best way I’ve found to do this is quite simple and basic: Be nice to other people!!
When you see someone, smile at them, tell them they look good. tell someone s/he looks nice today. How about calling up your parents and telling them how much you love them and how awesome they are. Thank them for your childhood. You never know when they’ll be gone.
As a society, we appreciate positivity. The more you can share it with others, the more you are practicing it in your own life.
Stay happy!
