Rat Breaks Into an ATM, Eats Almost $20,000 in Cash, Then Drops Dead

-

Now here’s a story that will blow your mind!

When bank technicians in the town of Tinsukia, India were called to investigate a broken ATM, they started to smell a rat.

When the engineers took a look inside the ATM, they found $18,000 worth of shredded Indian rupee notes… and one dead rodent.

The rat had somehow managed to evade the security camera on the machine and feasted on a meal courtesy of the State Bank of India (SBI), official reports stated.

Chandan Sharma, the SBI bank manager where the ATM was located said:

“The ATM was out of order for a few days and when our technicians opened the kiosk we were shocked to find shredded notes and a dead rat,”

“We have started an investigation into this rare incident and will take measures to prevent a recurrence.”

SBI is India’s largest bank and to date, it has installed over 50,000 ATM machines across the country. The majority of these cash-givers are installed with CCTV to provide that extra level of security.

However, Sharma said that after a close inspection of the footage at the ATM in Tinsukia, the cameras failed to pick up any trace of the rat entering the machine. Of the 2.9 million rupees ($42,685) in the ATM, 1.7 million rupees ($25,022) were able to be fully recovered and completely intact.

But the rat did manage to chomp its way through banknotes worth 1.2 million rupees ($17,662).

Photographs taken by a local reporter after the ATM was opened by technicians appeared to show small pieces of gray and purple colored notes of 500- and 2000-rupee denominations.
