Findings of a new study have just been released showing that more people believe in aliens and ghosts than God.
The survey of 1,500 adults and 500 children in the UK was conducted online for Ripley’s Believe It or Not!
OnePoll, discovered that more than half of adults believe that there is alien life, while only around a quarter believe in God.
Of the children who were polled, 26 percent believe aliens live on earth, disguised as humans whereas one in 20 thought they knew an alien – and of those, one in 20 amusingly think their mom is the likely culprit!
In the 2011 census 59.3 per cent of the population described themselves as Christian – but that doesn’t necessarily mean they were believers.
A YouGov poll of 1,500 Anglican clergy this week found one in 50 priests believe God to be a human construct, while 16 per cent of priests say they are unclear on what they think about God.
Do adults believe in… (Ripley’s poll)
- Ghosts (55 per cent)
- Aliens (51 per cent)
- UFOs (42 per cent)
- Angels (27 per cent)
- God (25 per cent)
Do children believe in… (Ripley’s poll)
- Aliens (64 per cent)
- Ghosts (64 per cent)
- UFOs (50 per cent)
- God (33 per cent)
- Angels (27 per cent)
A previous poll by the same group, in 2013, found that just over 50 percent of Americans thought that extraterrestrial life exists. This is in contrast to only 38 percent of people who said that intelligent life exists.
However, a 2012 survey by National Geographic found that 77 percent of Americans think that aliens have visited Earth.
